- Derek:Here, read this name of the compound I'll be synthesizing tomorrow. "cis-norbornene-5, 6-endo-dicarboxylic anhydride." Is that not ridiculous?
- Me:Haha that is ridiculous. I don't even know what element "norbornene" could be.
- Derek:It doesn't look as bad as it sounds. It's basically just two cyclic pentanes attached together with three double bonded oxygens coming off of them. Norbornene is just like a common name used in place of naming it the normal way, which would be way more ridiculous.
- Me:Ohh, talk more chemistry to me ;) haha. That's pretty cool though, that you actually understand all of that stuff.
- Derek:Oh yeah baby, I'm about to conjugate your double bonds all night long! Hahaha
